The world may seem incredibly overwhelming. How can we ever hope to address all these myriads of heartbreaking problems? Is it beyond the scope of mere humans?
There is a spiritual practice that fills my soul to overflowing and creates a profound shift in me. I believe with all my heart that it makes a difference in the wider world as well, because the holiness of it raises vibrations and elevates consciousness.
There are many such spiritual practices, but my favorite is chanting the names of God.
I will confess that, in recent months, I have often chosen to “recover” from the demands and strictures of my job by resorting to superficial pleasures, time-fillers, and addictions–like Facebook or the reading of fiction. These are not terrible pasttimes, clearly, but I do know that, especially at the end of the day, there are “better” choices to make. I finally, finally gave myself a gentle talking to and reminded myself of the power and peace of doing more spiritual practices. So, for the last few nights, with the evenings being blessedly pleasant, I sat out on the deck and watched the birds, gazed at the pale half moon, watched the setting sun, and reveled in the peace of the natural world. Tonight I added to this bliss by singing a chant which invokes nine of God’s many, many, many names. It felt like I was singing a lullaby to the world.
I am attaching several links with chanting from several different traditions. I most wholeheartedly believe that God has no one “religion.” Rather, as long as He lives in our hearts, He could care less what name we give Him.
Enjoy, my dears! May these chants not only bliss you out, but ripple out into a world which dearly needs this peace. (And, by the way, playing any of these videos at night is also an incredibly beautiful way to fall asleep.)
